What do you say about Hal Jackson? At 92, he is the oldest DJ in radio. With nearly 70 years in the industry, he is indeed a pioneer, and as a black man he has broken numerous barriers in the fields of broadcasting and entertainment and continues to be an inspiration to and encourager of young people. He is at once, a legend and an icon, a crusader and an American original. He has seen the changes in the fortunes of African Americans in the 20th Century–from lynchings and Jim Crow segregation to the possibility of a black man becoming President of the United States. His life story is the stuff authors wish they could dream up. In fact it has been chronicled in his autobiography The House That Jack Built, first published in 2001, and now out in paperback.
